Through the Weeds (11/16/14)

November 16, 2014
Duke Energy's Buck Steam Plant in Rowan County sits just on the banks of the Yadkin River. The plant is relatively hard to get a clear view of without going on company property. On the other side of the river, where this picture was taken, there's a gate prohibiting access onto a piece of property with a clear view of the plant from the river bank.

Garage, Barn or House? (11/14/14)

November 14, 2014

After getting off of the bus, a Rowan-Salisbury School System student walks past on old building near downtown Salisbury. I'm not actually sure whether this building is a barn, garage or even a house. Either way, I thought it looked interesting.

Press Room in black and white (11/8/14)

November 8, 2014

A view down the side of the Salisbury Post's printing press. The first tower in this picture is near the end of the printing press and the pages are already complete by reaching this point.

This is the control panel for the printing press. Normally it's buttons are lit with various bright colors as the machine is running.

A pile of printed newspapers from the night before sit on the top of the control panel.

A series of identical buttons sit on one portion of the control panel in the press room.

The final product. A huge sheet of newspaper print sits motionless after being printed the night before.

Tin can mountain (11/05/14)

November 6, 2014

Took this while touring the Rowan County Recycling Processing Center for a story. The liquid leading up to this monstrous pile of cans was water, but it looks pretty gross.

Wooden walls (11/01/14)

November 1, 2014

This wall is sitting just outside of a scrap yard in East Spencer N.C. My guess is the walls are wooden because just above the wall is an electric fence and wood is an electric insulator. Don't know how sturdy the wall is and didn't care to find out and get shocked.
